Polly Perks

Polly Perks, also known as Private Perks, spent a good part of her life perfectly content with the idea of staying at home running "The Duchess," her family's inn.

Unfortunately, in her fanatically religious and war-mongering country, Borogravia, where almost everything is an "abomination unto Nuggan", women can't own property so her wishes could never come true. 

Polly's only hope of keeping the inn was through her dim witted brother who, being a man, would legally inherit the place. Unfortunately though, her brother was missing in action, caught up in another of Borogravia's many wars against the "evil Zlobenian oppressors".

Not one to give up hope, Polly did the only thing left to her and became an "abomination unto Nuggan" by putting on men's clothing, joining the army and heading off to war in search of her brother.

After this time she became known as Private Perks and eventually found herself taking command of a unit of people just like herself, leading an invasion against their own castle, rising to the rank of sergeant and more or less saving the day.
